A look at what is the difference between American Roulette and European Roulette.

American Roulette is the most common form of roulette that is found at online casinos and Las Vegas casinos.  The reason why casinos like American Roulette is the 00 stop that is unique to the American Roulette wheel.  The inclusion of the 00 stop with the 1-36 and 0 stops on the wheel increases the house edge to 5.25% on all bets except the  five number bet which has a whopping house edge of 7.29%.

I feel that this is a good enough reason NOT to play online American Roulette when European Roulette is so readily available.

If you have no other alternative but to play at American Roulette tables then look for tables that offer the surrender rule, that is often found in Atlantic City.  This means that if a 0 or 00 is hit then half the bet is returned to the players on all outside even money bets.  The house edge of 2.63% on these bets is slightly better than that of European Roulette.
